Title / Titel Phylogenetic analysis of haemotropic Mycoplasmas
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung Two hemotrophic mycoplasmas have been recognized in cats, named Mycoplasma haemofelis and ‘Candidatus Mycoplasma haemominutum’. We recently described a third feline haemotrophic Mycoplasma species in a Swiss pet cat with hemolytic anemia. This agent induced anemia after experimental transmission to two SPF cats. The agent was shown to be prevalent in pet cats and wild felids worldwide, and phylogenetic analyses of the 16S rRNA gene revealed its close relationship to rodent haemotrophic Mycoplasma, namely Mycoplasma coccoides and Mycoplasma haemomuris. The aims of the current study were to extend recent phylogenetic work performed on this agent by investigating RNaseP RNA gene (rnpB) phylogeny.
