Summary / Zusammenfassung
Although it is widely accepted that pressure from the work domain can impair functioning in the family domain (and vice versa), empirical research has only recently begun to address the possible positive effects of being invested simultaneously in the work and family domain. In this project we postulate and investigate three facets of interdomain enhancement: the transfer of competencies, the transfer of positive mood, and compensation (i.e., buffering effect of experiences in one domain against negative effects of distress in the other). We use a multi-methods approach (e.g., questionnaire data, diary data, experimental data) to investigate whether and how these facets of enhancement are related to indicators of well-being and functioning in the work and family domains.
