| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is a toxin-mediated disease complicating burns and the leading cause of mortality of small burns in children. Interestingly, the global distribution of the TSS is uneven, such that a high incidence is seen in Great Britain and Ireland, but no TSS has been observed in the Netherlands. The reasons for this curious distribution are not clear. In Switzerland and Austria, the TSS in pediatric burns is a known entity. Even an increasing incidence of it is suspected. In our retrospective study, we aim to acquire and review epidemiological data on the occurrence of the TSS in Switzerland and Austria in the last 5-10 years. Therefore the archives of all pediatric ICUs of Switzerland and Austria, respectively, will be searched for patients with the TSS according to the Centres for Disease Control (CDC) after small burns. Additionally, the management and the outcome of these patients shall be analyzed. |
