Sudden cardiac death: clinical evaluation of family members and risk stratification
Summary / Zusammenfassung
The annual incidence of sudden cardiac death (SCD) in the general population is estimated as 1 in a 1000. A number of SCDs are caused by inherited diseases, such as cardiomyopathies, channelopathies or arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathies. Retrospectively, all family members referred to our institution after a sudden cardiac death or life-threatening event of a sibling will be evaluated. We hypothesize that a comprehensive clinical investigation will identify relatives at risk for sudden death and allow for targeted prevention or effective treatments.
