| Summary / Zusammenfassung | This project focuses on the stability of laughter strategies through the lifespan but particularly interest on the over 60 year olds. Gelotophobia, gelotophilia and katagelasticism have been shown to be useful concepts for explaining individual differences in being laughed at, using the empirically verified instrument, the PhoPhiKat contains 45 items measuring the fear of being laughed at (gelotophobia), the joy of being laughed at (gelotophilia), and the joy of laughing at others (katagelasticism). Scenarios have proved an excellent tool in measuring the emotional profiles of gelotophobes (Platt, 2008) and this method has been employed again to evaluate how older people apply, or are affected by, the perception of being laughed at, when faced with known vulnerabilities of older age. Although, so far, no correlation with age has been found in Gelotophobia (Ruch & Proyer, 2008), it is not yet known if gelotophilia or katagelasticism is age related or if any of these laughter strategies are stable and long lasting or if different strategies are used at different times throughout the lifespan. | ||
