Title / Titel Assessment of hippocampal function with (O-15)H2O-PET, fMRI and cognitive evoked potentials with regard to predicting memory deficits.
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung The hippocampal formation plays an important function in the formation of the episodic and semantic memory and bilateral damage results in severe memory disturbances. Therefore, in patients suffering from drug resistant mesial temporal lobe epilepsy the functional integrity of the epileptogenic and non-epileptogenic hippocampus has to be assessed to before the epileptogenic hippocampus can be resected. For this purpose a intracarotidal or intrachoroidal amobarbital test (WADA-test) test is traditionally used. The aim of this project is to develop a non-invasive test using PET and/or fMRI in combination with a neuropsychological test procedure designed to selectively activate the hippocampal formation .
