Title / Titel Comparison of a new portable hand held device to measure FeNO (NObreath®) with NIOX MINO® and the ECOMEDICS® chemiluminescence analyzer in children between 6 and 16 years
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung The measurement of fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FENO) can assist in the diagnosis of asthma and may also act as a useful surrogate inflammatory marker on which to base treatment decisions in asthma management algorithms. Until recently, this technique was confined to research facilities and tertiary care institutions. The NIOX MINO® is a handheld electrochemical device that has been shown to yield comparable FENO measurements to the NIOX stationary unit and the ECOMEDICS®. The NObreath® (Bedfont…..) is a new electrochemical handheld device for the measurement of FeNO. To our knowledge this is the first study which compared this new system with the already validated analyzers.

Objective:
The study aimed to compare a new portable hand held device (NObreath, Bedfond….) with the conventional chemiluminescence NO analyser (ECOMEDICS®) and the recently introduced NIOX-MINO® device.

Methods:
Asthmatic and non-asthmatic children (aged 6-16 years) had simultaneous FeNO measurements using NIOX-MINO®, ECOMEDICS® and NObreath®. Devices were used in randomized order and for every assessment three technically acceptable measurements were performed according to current ATS/ERS guidelines.
