Title / Titel mRNA profiling for low template samples / small stains
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung mRNA profiling is a new method for the identification of body fluids from biological stains. Several mRNA markers were developed for the identification of blood, saliva, semen, vaginal secretions, menstrual blood and skin. The majority of stains encountered in nowadays forensic laboratories are contact stains, meaning collected cells from diverse surfaces, normally very few cells. The aim of this study is to develop mRNA profiling strategies for dealing with low template samples / small stains. One approach would be to pre-amplify the whole RNA before any down stream analysis. The developed method could then be applied to skin swabs and forensic stains.
