| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The Future Patient Project in Switzerland was originally launched as part of a multi-centric European project led by Picker Europe on assessing citizens' and patients' views on the healthcare system and key drivers of change. The project not only gathered new data, but also feeds them back to the public and stakeholder groups to support dialogue and policy-making. The European project won the Baxter Prize and the Swiss project won the Guido Riva Foundation Prize of the Public Health Switzerland. In a second phase, researchers at the ISPMZ have developed an instrument to measure generic core competencies for health (health literacy) among the general population. The Swiss Health Literacy Survey (HLS·CH) is one of few instruments developed to measure health literacy, and the first to be developed outside of North America and to cover a range of competencies beyond basic health-related reading skills. The Swiss Health Literacy Survey (HLS·CH) will serve as a model for the upcoming European Health Literacy Survey (HLS·EU) co-funded by the Public Health Programme of DG-SANCO. |
