| Summary / Zusammenfassung | Vagal function is negatively assciated to the presence of risk factors, morbidity, and mortality. Recently, we found a good vagal function to be inversely related to acute biospycholgogical stress response. Furthermore, different psychological and social factors (resources and personality traits) were shown to dampen acute biopsychological stress response. This project aims to investigate the role of different biological, psychological, and social resources, mediators and moderators on acute and chronic biopsychological stress response and adaptation. 200 healthy subjects attending military school (=chronic stress) will participate several times during their training at different laboratory tasks (Stroop colour-word taks; Cold Face Test). Stimulating and inhibiting effects on different biological stress markers (e.g. heart rate, heart rate variability, salivary alpha-amylase) and mood variables will be measured repeatedly. Additionally, different psychological and social factors (i. e. social support, motivation, stress reactivity) will be measured at the beginning of the training in order to evaluate their effect during acute and chronic stress. |
