| Summary / Zusammenfassung | Research on international regimes has proceeded case wise, thereby creating the false impression of a peaceful coexistence of international regimes side by side. So far questions regarding the growing together of international regimes have been nearly ignored, perhaps even mostly overlooked with few exceptions, one is the classic book by Evan Luard on the "emerging framework of interdependence" (1977) who devoted a chapter to "the coordination of international government". Far from foreseeing a "clash of regimes", we still argue that in the future much attention by scholars as well as practitioners in international relations will have to be devoted exactly to questions of incompatibilities, overlaps, intersections, interfaces, and - last but certainly not least - conflicts among international regimes. Trade and environment is one field, trade and social development is perhaps the next. | ||||
