| Summary / Zusammenfassung |
Today two major techniques exist for topographical height extraction based on SAR:
- Stereogrammetry works similar to our own eye-brain system: it depends on two views from different angles of the same patch on the ground for the extraction the third dimension - height - from the 2D images. This process is stable, automatic, and more or less accurate depending on the type of terrain.
- Interferometry similarly requires two images, but depends more on the nature of the light waves themselves for the height extraction. As such, it is a more accurate technique, but difficult to implement under certain conditions, such as where there are forests or mountains. In these regions the estimated heights may be incorrect or even missing. The technique also requires manual intervention to work properly.
The goal of this project is to demonstrate that the less accurate but more stable stereoscopic technique can be used in conjuction with interferometry for the automatic production of height models with nearly the accuracy attainable by interferometry and nearly the completeness of stereo models. The method proposed attempts to combine the strengths of the two techniques while side-stepping their respective weaknesses. Weitere Informationen |
