Summary / Zusammenfassung: Psychological theories postulate that individual personality characteristics and a fostering social environment in youth are significant factors in career development. Here for the first time, these assumptions are tested beyond the life phase of starting work. The study reveals whether individual characteristics of youth and their psychosocial milieus do indeed have longer-term effects on occupational status in adulthood and examines the extent to which the effects persist beyond the initial choice of an occupation. This project is conducted under the Zurich Longitudinal Study "From School to Middle Adulthood” (Schallberger & Spiess, 2001; see Project "Vocational development from age 15 to 36").
