| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The research project is based on the frequent diary-like correspondence between the worker’s physician Fritz Brupbacher (1873–1945) and his wife Lydia Petrovna Kochetkova (1872–?) who was working as a revolutionary disguised as a country doctor in Tsarist Russia from 1897–1914. Two major objectives are pursued in the analysis of this rare treasure of thousands of letters: * The beginning, the development and the problems inherent of an extraordinary intercultural marriage, which lasted 15 years although the partners only met very rarely. The perception by the two spouses of the value system and behavior, and the society of each other’s country that finally gave rise to a cultural conflict and led to divorce. In addition, it is possible for the first time to track in detail the life of Kochetkova as a Socialist Revolutionary, including her work as a functionary of the party and her role within the PSR. * The Analysis of the underground work of the Socialist Revolutionary Party (PSR) in the Middle Volga Region, where Lidya Kochetkova for some time was responsible for leading the party’s work at the bottom level. As there are not many sources about the conspiracy activity of the Socialist Revolutionaries (SR) – one of the three big socialist parties before World War One – her letters are of utmost significance. |
