| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The aim of this project is to mobilise the European expertise on outcomes for children and young people in public care in order to identify those factors within educational, social security and social care provision in different Western societies which promote or inhibit the successful transition to adulthood of young care leavers. The objectives will be to increase the availability of comparable data on children in public care, and specifically on outcomes for young care leavers in the participating countries; and to use the research findings to develop strategies to increase the proportion who leave school with qualifications to increase access to the employment market for this vulnerable group and to reduce the proportion who enter prison or become homeless in later life. The study will contribute to the development of policy and effective professional interventions for vulnerable young people at risk of becoming socially excluded throughout the participating countries, and will inform European policy in this area. |
