Summary / Zusammenfassung The HDLgym research project examines possibilities to meet increasing demands for quality and effectiveness in grammar school teaching with competence-based didactic models such as problem-based and dialogic learning.

  • Results concerning the Dialogic Learning Model: This research project is based on the premise that teachers need support both in at the level of subject content as well as in pedagogical and psychological matters if they are to introduce pedagogical innovations successfully. The follow-up study in social science showed that sustainable didactic innovation depends in part upon the degree to which teachers are willing to support their students' learning using open assignments. These assignments should take into account the students' heterogeneous levels of knowledge and development. The study also shows that students need to be given enough time to work in the assignments in class, and that it is crucial that teachers regularly assess students' work from a formative point of view, underscoring good solutions and emphasising students' potential for further learning.

    The results of this study point in a similar direction as those found in Nadja Badr Goetz' doctoral thesis.
