| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The indolealkylamine psilocybin is the main psychoactive principle of hallucinogenic mushrooms such as Psilocybe cubensis and Psilocybe semilanceata. Its unique psychopharmacological properties capacitate psilocybin to serve as an experimental tool in neuroscience to study the neurobiological basis of altered states of consciousness. In order to better understand the neurophysiological, especially neuroendocrine mechanisms following 5-HT2 receptor stimulation in humans, 8 healthy subjects receive placebo and 4 doses of psilocybin (low - high dose) in random order. Dose-dependent effects of psilocybin on physiological functions are investigated systematically by measuring ECG, heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature, clinical-chemical blood parameters and hormones. Influence of psilocybin on sustained attention, mood states and core dimensions of altered states of consiousness are assessed by use of psychometric scales (FAIR, EWL-60, and 5-D ASC questionnaires). The study aims to better characterize the pharmacologic properties of psilocybin investigated preliminarily in two earlier clinical trials. | ||||
