| Summary / Zusammenfassung | Ernst Derendinger (1883–1972), born in the highlands of the canton of Berne, after an apprenticeship as an graphic artist emigrated to Germany and Finland, and finally tried his luck in Moscow. He succeeded in his profession during the soviet time, also, but was forced to return to Switzerland in 1938. Two years later he started to write down his memoirs of at least 1041 pages. The author is an excellent observer of the political development of tsarist Russia and the Soviet Union as of the everydaylife of the working poor as well. Relating to the latter there exist very few sources of the same importance. Apart from that Derendinger turns out to be a talented and amusing writer. The aim of the project is to publish the manuscript in an abridged version with comments, a biography of the author and a description of the historical background. | ||
