| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The project investigates "street children" and homeless marginalized youth, their problems and coping strategies in Zürich. As definitions vary so widely across different countries the term "street children" was used to encompass any children or adolescent under the age of 18 who lives in the street, and who is homeless for days, weeks or month and without or with little support from Parents or Child Care Institutions. Furthermore, it was considered that it is not feasible to merely take a definition from one country and apply it to another, since issues, needs and problems differ in more than one way. The purpose of the research is to obtain informations about the local matrix and the national aspects and forms of the "street child" experiences, with particular reference to one common factor - the vulnerability of these children. The Research Objectives are: A) to investigate their problems on the personal, social, legal and social policy levels, B) to explore the multidimensional factors creating high risk situations under which children and youth find themselves in the streets and marginalized, exploited and victimized. |
