| Summary / Zusammenfassung | Teachers are widely expected to develop their professional practice through independent and collaborative reflection (e.g., journal writing, coaching, supervision, intervisitation). Approaches to professional development, which allow for individualized and situation specific assistance are increasingly popular. Only to call for more reflection and collaboration, however, is not likely to be sufficient. Learning from experience through reflection depends on the cognitive tools available. Content-Focused Coaching is a coaching model for in-service teachers to assist the development of their professional knowledge base. A pivotal part of teachers' professional knowledge is pedagogical content knowledge, which represents the blending of content and pedagogy. The coaching model's tool for reflection and strategies for content-specific coaching dialogues are intended to catalyze the growth of a professional culture of teaching and learning and to foster habits of professional planning and reflection. The model is currently being used in two school districts. | ||
