| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The functional morphology of the postcranials of fossil hominids has implications on the locomotor behavior of the australopithecines, the first hominids with an upright posture and bipedal locomotion. The research consists in describing fossil remains of hominids and comparative work on extant primates. The following studies are actually in progress: • Descriptions of postrcranial remains (partial skeleton Stw-431, pelvis of Stw-431, fibula of Australopithecus africanus). • 3-D-Kinematics of vertical climbing in hominoids. • Comparative anatomy and function of lumbar vertebrae in Homo sapiens, great apes and the australopithecines. • Functional morphology of the tibialis anterior muscle. • Weight transfer in the foot.
