Title / Titel Day profile of salivary alpha-amylase
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung It has been suggested that the activity of salivary alpha-amylase (sAA) reflects changes in catecholamine levels in blood. It is known that a wide array of biological parameters follows a circadian pattern with a clear distinction of concentrations at day and night. Changes in concentrations during day time can be responsible for erronuous values of a certain parameter. Thus, it is relevant to choose carefully the time of collection. In this study, we set out to examine if alpha-amylase activity in saliva has a marked day profile.
