Title / Titel Salivary alpha-amylase activity in the yohimbine-test
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung Salivary alpha-amylase is a candidate substance to indicate SAM reactivity since secretion from human salivary glands occurs in response to neurotransmitter stimulation and salivary glands are innervated by both sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves. Generally, it is considered that sympathetic stimulation (via norepinephrine, NE) leads to high levels of protein secretion, e.g. alpha-amylase, whereas high rates of fluid output occur in response to parasympathetic stimulation (via acetylcholine, ACh). The aim of this study is to measure alpha-amylase activity after sympathetic stimulation with the alpha-adrenoceptor-antagonist yohimbine.
