| Summary / Zusammenfassung | In every culture, songsinging is a social practice with various functions. Implicitly, it contributes to a child's vocal acculturation towards music and language. Even in early childhood, songsinging is a complex organized action that contains the basic musical parameters (pitch, loudness, timbre, timing) and articulated sounds (vowels, syllables, phonems, words). The melody and the lyrics are organized hierarchically and are synchronized metrically. There is a drastic change in the structure oa an individual's songsinging from infancy to adulthood. This is not due to mere innate structures predetermined to produce western musical rules, or to an age-related course. Rather, we view songsinging as an action guided by mental processes that gradually adapt their structures towards the surrounding musical, linguistic and social conventions. The theoretical framework is adopted from a structure genetic approach in the Piagetian tradition. The aim is to reconstruct theoretically and empirically individual changes and its underlying mental processes. We use a microgenetic method (incl. analyses of interaction, computerized acoustic analyses, a new mode for the graphic representation) to describe children's (age 2;7 - 9;5 yrs.) step-by-step processes while learning and inventing songs. At a meta-level, case-studies are analyzed with respect to a hypothetical development sequence. | ||
