Completed research project

Title / Titel Psychoendocrinological evaluation of a stress management training in a stress-exposed working population
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung The planned project sets out to evaluate the stress-reducing effect of a cognitive-behavioral stress management training in a stress-exposed working population. Participants are employees of a German assurance company. The stress management training is based on the principles of stress inoculation training developed by Meichenbaum. Extensive modifications of the original Meichenbaum training include additional topics like anger management, management of control demands as well as of ressources.
For evaluation purposes all participants are randomly assigned to receive group-based cognitive-behavioral stress management training either before or after a standardized psychosocial stress test (Trier Social Stress Test, TSST). Endocrine responses to the stress task are assessed by measuring salivary cortisol and stress reactivity of the sympathetic nervous system is assessed via continous measurement of heart rate and blood pressure. A series of psychometric variables (i.e. cognitive appraisal processes to the TSST) completes assessment of psychological aspects of stress reactivity.
