| Summary / Zusammenfassung | Background: Limitations of available approaches in the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) cause an ongoing search for improved treatments. Brief Eclectic Psychotherapy (BEP) has recently been proposed as a fully manualized, multimodal treatment protocol that combines cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic elements. To date, BEP has proven to be effective in police officers suffering from chronic PTSD. Methods: This project will adopt strict methodological rigour by applying the seven gold standards outlined by Foa and collaborators in their prescription of ideal treatment studies of traumatized populations. We will carry out a randomized controlled trial of Brief Eclectic Psychotherapy in a more general population of survivors of civilian trauma suffering from chronic PTSD. A sample of 56 trauma survivors will be assessed at a minimum of six months post trauma. Patients showing full-blown PTSD will be randomly assigned to either 16 sessions of Brief Eclectic Psychotherapy, or a minimal intervention control group. PTSD symptomatology will be our primary outcome measure; secondary outcome measures will include biopsychological markers, quality of life, and return to work. Expected value of the proposed project: If Brief Eclectic Psychotherapy proves to be an effective treatment for PTSD, our results will lend further support to the establishment of BEP in the field of psychotraumatology. Current status: Data collection finished. First publication in published, one additional in press, other original articles under review. Weitere Informationen |
