Title / Titel Historical Research on Asia Minor in Antiquity
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Original title / Originaltitel Grundlagenforschung im antiken Kleinasien
Summary / Zusammenfassung The research project consists of several components:

  1. Data Base of the Sources of Asia Minor
A comprehensive data base of the written sources of Greco-Roman Asia Minor. It is aimed at a comprehensive documentation of inscriptions, coins and literary evidence in an electronic data base. Multiple search functions provide for a whole range of analyses, from simple word search to complex thematic inquieries. The system of division and subdivision of the data banks is regional, comprising ancient geographic (and sometimes political) units as e.g. Bithynia, Lycia, and within these units apply to city-territories (Poleis). Progress so far has covered 8 regions: Bithynia, Paphlagonia, Pontus, Galatia, Caria, Lycia, Cilicia, Cappadocia, ca. 12'000 data records. Publication on the internet will be considered in due course. Weitere Informationen
  2. The Inscriptions of Caunus
A corpus of the written sources of Caunus, an ancient city in southern Asia Minor (opposite of Rhodes) which has preserved apart from many Greek and some Latin texts records in the indigenous Anatolian Language of Carian. Since 1991 the author is a member of the international excavation team at the site responsible for the epigraphy. A study of the history and topography and the edition of all texts (literary testimonia, inscriptions, papyri), translations, detailed commentaries, analyses and indexes are completed. New inscriptions will be published as a supplement. Weitere Informationen

  3. The Inscriptions of Pompeiopolis in Paphlagonia
In 2006 excavation of the Roman city of Pompeiopolis in Northern Turkey, a foundation of Pompey the Great in 64 B.C., has begun under the directory of PD Dr. Lâtife Summerer, University of Munich. As a member of the excavation team Marek has assumed responsibility for the edition of inscriptions found at the site. Weitere Informationen
