| Summary / Zusammenfassung | This research project seeks to discover common ground between certain forms of religious painting found among some of the indigenous societies of the Sino-Tibetan marches and a type of pictographic writing employed by Naxi religious practitioners as mnemotechnical tool to record a body of ritual lore handed down orally. The religious paintings investigated have, as a rule, narrative functions and serve divinatory purposes, in a way similar to the use of the pictographs. Moreover, the Naxi picture writing and the religious paintings juxtaposed resemble one another in their respective graphic styles. Weitere Informationen |
