| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The role of education is traditionally seen in transmitting knowledge and values. However that role is generally changing in educational contexts: teachers and learners are taking an active and participatory role. The re-orientation of education towards an active role is seen to be conducive within the transformation processes for sustainable development. In the research project it is explored how teachers and students are prepared to be active partners in and outside schools. Methods used are: Analysis of models for cross-curricular teaching and learning settings, case studies of interdisciplinary problem-based experience in four selected schools (gymnasium, teacher training college, professional high school). In a second part of the research project study material is developed appropriate to supporting active learning about transformation processes in the field of sustainable food production and consumption. Outcomes will reveal possibilities and constraints schools meet while changing their role towards sustainable development. | ||||||||
