Summary / Zusammenfassung	The main goal is to situate Niklas Luhmann’s theory of art in the context of philosophical aesthetics, and to integrate his suggested solution into the debate of contemporary philosophical aesthetics. The project is intended as an interdisciplinary study at the intersection of theoretical sociology and philosophical aesthetics. Luhmann’s theory of art offers an important impetus for the paradoxical formulation of philosophical aesthetics, which consists in making essential statements about art, without falling into the trap of essentialism. This system-theory oriented approach allows to rethink the unsolved problem of the relation-ship between art and society.
