| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The "Forschungsstelle fuer Tessiner Geschichte" (Research Center for History of the Ticino) views and classifies the source material of the Ticino local archives for the three districts of Leventina, Riviera, and Blenio. The parchment and paper documents (until 1499) are dated, classified, transcribed, and provided with archive abstracts. They are then safely stored in archive folders and appropriate archive boxes. This has made it possible to preserve the material in the various archives of the Ticino municipalities, thus preventing the decaying process to be expected in many cases and raising the awareness of the responsible persons in the field of general conservation. The medieval documents are published in chronological order, as abstracts or in full text, in the "Materiali e Documenti Ticinesi" (MDT) publication program consisting of the Leventina (I), Riviera (II), and Blenio (III) series. The publication of the MDT has, for the first time, made access possible to a fund of documents that is the most significant source of the history of the valleys of the upper Ticino in the Middle Ages. A further focal point of the research project is the setting up and development of a database founded on the some 2100 documents published so far. With the MDT database it will be possible to elaborate the MDT index volumes; six are planned for each of the three series, i.e. Index of Documents and Archives (A), Subject Index (B), Index of Persons (C), Index of Persons secundum titulos (D), Index of Notaries (E), and Index of Place Names (F). |
