| Summary / Zusammenfassung | Interest of this project lies within the interactions of cognition and perception. "Manipulation" of cognitive or perceptive information offers an interesting way to test the limits and capacities of these processes. How does perception fool cognition (such as in illusions), or vice versa? One current project deals with "mental transformation of bodies and the role of gravity". Here we aim at manipulating transformation strategies either by means of instructions given, by means of the stimuli themselves or by the direction of gravity implied in the stimuli. Another project deals with the role of vestibular signals on time perception. Recent research (Israël et al., 2004) suggests that distance perception can be altered during vestibular stimulation. Time perception is closely linked to distance perception and we intend to further explore time or distance perception separately and their interaction during simultaneous vestibular stimulation. |
