| Summary / Zusammenfassung | Several authors examined the relationship between personality and interests. Borges and Savickas (2004) reviewed the literature on personality and medical students' selection of medical specialty using the Five-Factor Model (FFM; Costa & McCrae, 1992) of personality. Their results showed that it was not possible to classify medical specialty areas according to a unique personality pattern. Other research suggests that personality is predictive of interests at a more general level. Larson and Borgen (2002) examined relations between measures of vocational interests and personality in a sample of gifted adolescents. Results indicated that Extraversion was related to Holland's (1985) Enterprising and Social interests, Agreeableness was related to Social interests, and Openness was related to both Artistic and Investigative interests. The present study investigates the intercorrelation between a photo-based test of vocational interests, developed on the RIASEC-Classification by Holland (1997), and the Eysenckian PEN model of personality. The Foto-Interessentest FIT (Toggweiler & Stoll, 2002) measures the six RIASEC-Dimensions by means of 127 fotographs. The PEN system on the other hand is a factor analytically based descriptive taxonomy of personality containing the three superfactors Psychoticism, Extraversion, and Neuroticism (Eysenck & Eysenck, 1985). These concepts are measured with the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised (short version) in German (EPQ-RK; Ruch, 1999) - a 50 item instrument in a yes-no-format. Intercorrelations between the EPQ-RK and FIT will be calculated for men and women separately. | ||||
