Title / Titel	The clinical impact of cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging in paediatric patients with congenital heart disease

Summary / Zusammenfassung	Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a relatively new imaging modality, providing useful anatomical and functional information in patients with congenital heart disease (CHD). MRI is being increasingly used in clinical routine as advanced diagnostic technique. This project evaluates the diagnostic role of MRI in a tertiary paediatric cardiology centre and its impact on clinical management. The project consists in a retrospective analysis of the demographic and technical MRI data of 286 MRI examinations, which were performed in 253 paediatric patients between January 2002 and October 2004 at our institution. The impact of the information obtained on the diagnostic and therapeutic management of the patients will also be thoroughly assessed, as MRI may potentially change the modern diagnostic approach to congenital heart disease, by providing non-invasively accurate anatomical and functional information.
