Title / Titel Remodeling of the right ventricle after early pulmonary valve replacement in children with repaired tetralogy of Fallot: assessment by cardiovascular magnetic resonance.
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung Correct timing for pulmonary valve replacement is crucial for preventing the complications of pulmonary regurgitation and right ventricular dilatation after repair of Tetralogy of Fallot. It is well known that these complications may be severe and potentially lifethreatening. However the correct moment for such reintervention remains unclear.
In our clinic we set a cut off of 150 ml/m2 for the RV enddiastolic volume as indication for pulmonary valve replacement. With this project we sought to assess prospectively the remodeling of the right ventricle after pulmonary valve replacement in children , by using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). All children necessitating pulmonary valve replacement will undergo a CMR examination before and 6 months after valve replacement. and the ventricular volumes and their changes after surgery will be determined.
The results of the study will contribute to improve the clinical management of these patients, by defining a quantitative parameter, that may be used for indication of pulmonary valve replacement.
