PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Original title / Originaltitel Parking Optimization, Reservation and Accounting System
Summary / Zusammenfassung PORAS is a CTI/KTI-funded project to design and develop an integrated e-commerce system capable of providing high quality parking-related services that can be easily accessed by drivers andcontrolled by the providers. The primary focus of the PORAS project is to construct a flexible information and service platform that combines both on-street and off-street parking resources to provide better quality of parking services to drivers. It provides a 'soft' way to adjust the geographical distribution of parking spaces which often does not fit to theactual parking requirements of the public.
A comprehensive database schema has been proposed and designed to address the integration and interoperability in a hierarchy of various partners from the parking hardware manufacturers to parking providers/operators who are involved in the entire parking business model. For the purpose of facilitating the integration of diverse data sources and services from a number of different partners, an ontology for the parking business domain as a standard is under construction.
Because the solution and the iPark platform designed within the PORAS project are expected to be easily deployed and operated in entire Switzerland as well as to be extended and applied to whole Europe in a flexibile way, the fundamental infrastructure of iPark is based on the peer-to-peer paradigm that supports the iPark platform as well as services running on the platform can be owned, controlled, and operated by a number of different organizations or companies. An Enterprise P2P architecture will be proposed and validated to address the particular requirements and constraints when applying the P2P paradigm in the world of e-commerce/e-business. A number of pilot tests are planned to be conducted in several cities within the scope the PORAS project and a new EU eTEN project called OPTIPARK.
