Original title / Originaltitel Workflow Management in Pervasive/Ubiquitous Computing Environments
Summary / Zusammenfassung Modern mobile/ubiquitous devices have increasingly more functionality and application areas (i.e. e-commerce). Standard workflow management and mobile/ubiquitous computing technologies are promising in supporting complex process execution schemes and service integration in any modern organization. The main idea is to make existing workflow management systems more advanced, flexible and in principle compatible with the environment where ubiquitous devices, loosely coupled components and processes might be a part of any modern organization, as e.g. for hospital, bank, insurance, police or security applications. Neither ubiquitous computing technology can support loosely coupled processes, nor were workflow management systems designed for these challenges. Therefore, various problems such as process decoupling, decentralization of control flow, communication of ubiquitous participants, users or devices, dynamic environment monitoring and the like need to be solved. Novel workflow management techniques are required to guarantee the termination of complex distributed process schemes and the logical completion of tasks. UbiWFM aims to provide flexible process management and enactment services to enable and achieve uniform management functionality within ubiquitous computing infrastructures.
The long-term objective of UbiWFM is to create a universal and easily transferable tool to support loosely coupled process automation as well as the management and service integration in ubiquitous environments.
