| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The specific aim of the project is to develop a new concept of leadership. Research focuses on communication as defined by systems theory. Here, leadership equals communication. Virtual communication is an integral component of the project. Contemporary leadership research as a rule negates the system and instead focuses solely on the individual manager (Scharmer, Kets de Vries, Evans) or on strategic organisation (Bartlett/Ghoshal, Doz/Prahalad). These approaches however severely neglect the complexity today’s global managers face managing Multi-National-Companies in a global economy. The main questions addressed are: „Does leadership as leadership within a multinational company make a difference to non multi-national companies? If so, what impact does this have on the manager’s leadership? The hypothesis is that the manager leads within a certain leading structure, which is a specific structure, based in a MNC as a specific organisation, which on its boundaries exists within a global context of the world economy (self-referral). Research is guided by key theories, such as Niklas Luhmann’s system theory (Willke, Baecker, Wimmer etc.); Maturana’s autopoiesis, and radical/operational constructivism (von Foerster, Glasersfeld). Experimental design: 1. Specific challenges within multi national companies will be developed and evaluated. The method of choice is a qualitative research (Forschauer, Lueger) based on personal interviews with 12 CEOs of MNC’s. 2. Based on the evaluation, the global leadership phenomenum will be described. |
