| Summary / Zusammenfassung | Objective: The study aims to discover what factors influence children and adolescents participation in Germany in the domains of community, school and family. The focus is on childrens participation in communities and the offers communities provide for participation. Study design: The study is based on a multi level analysis. There are four levels: community, school, class, children and adolescents and for each level a fully standardized questionnaire was designed. Sample design: A pre-analysis was conducted and a short standardized questionnaire was sent to 2200 German communities. 564 replied and 315 agreed to participate in the initiative mitWirkung. Finally, 42 communities were selected. Within the communities classes were chosen randomly. 14`387 children, 422 heads of school, 631 teachers and 42 community leaders filled out their questionnaire. Data collection: Data was collected by way of (different) questionnaires for the children, their teachers, their head of school and the leaders of the communities the children live in. Areas of interest include (1) the childrens resources determining their participatory engagement (e.g. family situation, siblings, social networks, political interests, knowledge of participation possibilities, participation experiences), (2) the adults concepts, attitudes and acceptance toards childrens participation, and (3) the opportunity structures given in the communities and in the schools. |
