Completed research project

Title / Titel Data Integration and Visualisation for Functional Genomics
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung We aim to develop novel database and visualisation technologies which can support interactive search and analysis of very large data sets generated in functional genomics and systems biology research.

Suffix sequoia: we are developing new database techniques for exhaustive approximate matching in very large sets of DNA and protein sequences.

SyntenyVista: we are extending two viewers, SyntenyVista and DerBrowser, with new visualization techniques for cross-genome sequence and feature comparison, comparison of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and micro array results across species, and comparison of polymorphisms and existing database annotations.

This work involves the design, implementation and testing of new algorithms, and evaluation of these techniques with large data sets and with users, in the context of cardiovascular disease. Example applications include: rat micro array probe mapping, phage display data analysis, visualization of micro array results and QTLs.
