| Summary / Zusammenfassung | Background: Nocturnal leg pains, also called "growing pains" are very common in young children. Although they are harmless in nature and will eventually disapear, they can be very bothersome and annoying for the children affected and their families. A survey among general pediatricians performed in autumn 2005 showed that one consultation every 1-3 weeks was because of these leg pains. Very little is known about the cause of this condition and a correlation with sleep has never been looked for although these pains only occur during the night by definition. Aim: to better describe the nature of these pains, the mode of occurence and their relationship to the sleeping pattern of the children affected. Methods: Parents of children with "growing pains" will be asked by their general pediatrician to fill in two questionnaires about the nature of the pains experienced by their children and about their sleeping pattern. A cohort of healthy kindergarden age children serves as control cohort. |
