| Summary / Zusammenfassung | In August 2002, a fatal disease outbreak was reported in a large dairy herd in the Swiss Canton of Grisons. Diseased animals experienced fever, anorexia, agalactia, and depression. Anemia, ectoparasite infestation, and occasionally hemoglobinuria were observed. Up to five vector-borne pathogens, some not documented previously in Switzerland, were identified including Anaplasma marginale and phagocytophilum, Babesia bigemina, Theileria of the buffeli/sergenti/orientalis-complex, and haemotrophic Mycoplasma spp. It is the goal of the present study to characterise the hematological and blood chemical changes in these unique cows. | ||||||
