The nursing home for the aged as a living space

Summary / Zusammenfassung: Complementary to the study "Survey among elderly people in the Canton of Schaffhausen", a representative sample of 147 residents of nursing homes for the aged in the Canton of Schaffhausen (Switzerland) and the leaders of these institutions were interviewed using a standardised questionnaire. The main objectives of the study are: circumstances of the admission to homes for the aged, living and housing situation in the institution, autonomy and self determination, general and specific life satisfaction, social integration, contacts and participation, coping strategies and behaviour. The study is meant to contribute to the improvement of the social planning and social work for the elderly. Some of the questions asked in this study are identical to the ones asked in the study among elderly people living in private households; so the results of the two studies can be compared.
