| Summary / Zusammenfassung | Republicanism has recently become a very dynamic research topic within the history of ideas. Switzerland is in this research rarely a main theme, although it always understood itself as a republic. At the end of the 17th century, after several european crises, the self-confidence of the corpus helveticum as a republic began to grow in comparison to monarchical France. This self-confidence included the importance of virtue of the citizens, and these civic virtues began to be of great importance to the developing paedagogical discussion, as well in Rousseaus Geneva as in other cities of Switzerland, especially in Zurich. This context was the initial motive of Pestalozzi. The reconstruction of his republic-paedagogical development is in the center of the project. | ||
