Title / Titel Genetic prognostic factors in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis - the PROFA-study
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung The aim of the PROFA-study is to determine genetic factors that are associated with the susceptibility to JIA and prognostic factors for the severity of the course of JIA. Polymorphisms in different genes that code for proteins that are involved in the immune response, will be studied. Not only single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP's) will be studied, but also the combination of different mutations (haplotypes). The reconstruction of a haplotype requires the known genotypes of both parents (first degree family members). We hope to find an association between different polymorphisms or haplotypes and the susceptibility and/ or severity of JIA.
The next step will be to study the functionality of the polymorphism or haplotype that is found.
When an association with a functional polymorphism or haplotype is found, than this can reveal part of the pathogenesis of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis.
